LONDON CLASSIC THEATRE
presents
THE CARETAKER
by Harold Pinter
Wednesday 15 September 7.30pm
London Classic Theatre presents a landmark of twentieth century theatre - Harold Pinter’s The Caretaker – at the Borough Theatre, Abergavenny on Wednesday 15 September at 7.30pm.
Davies, an elderly drifter, is given shelter by the kindly but vulnerable Aston. He quickly makes himself at home in the squalid, junk-filled attic, but an uneasy peace is fractured by the arrival of Mick, Aston’s quick-witted, streetwise younger brother. As the shadows lengthen and the three men reveal more about the past and themselves, a battle of wits begins that will have irrevocable consequences for them all.
The Caretaker was first performed at The Arts Theatre, London in 1960. Fifty years on, Pinter’s compelling study of loneliness and power games still has the capacity to amuse, to shock and to fascinate. Playwright, director, actor, poet and political activist, Harold Pinter wrote twenty-nine plays including The Birthday Party, Old Times, The Homecoming and Betrayal. In 2005, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. He died on Christmas Eve 2008.
This year London Classic Theatre celebrates ten years on tour. Previous productions at the Borough Theatre have included last year’s performance of Martin McDonagh’s The Beauty Queen of Leenane, which played to a packed house.
Tickets, which cost £11 (concessions £9) are available from the Box Office 01873 850805.
